1993 ford explorer starter works fine it starts and runs but the solenoid power wire will not stop supplying power replaced relay on fender still not working right ignition in column is messed up but if you try slowly turning it back it just shuts off any idea?

 

sounds like a failure of the ignition switch or a short between a couple of wires. a redneck fix would be to disconnect that wire from the solenoid and wire up a push-button in its place, hidden if you want an added security measure.

 

I set up wires for a push button so it can be used its the only vehicle they have (friend of mine) they key itself still works to stop it from running so I don't plan on hiding it

 

well at least its running for now. if you want it to get back to OEM, i would start with a new ignition switch, and if that doesn't do it then i would be looking for a short in the wire harness - but that may be an all day thing to find the problem, thats up to you and the owner to decide if its worth doing
