Code help

Okay guys, I need some advice as to what to do. I'm getting 4 codes and don't know what to do, or if I should take the ol' girl in to the dealership. Any help is appreciated.

P1211 - ICP not ctrllable
P0308 - Faulty cylinder H
P0683 - Glow plug ctrl mod to pcm
P0670 - Glow plug ctrl circ error

Am I screwed?

P0308{5}
Injector Driver Circuit

P1211{2}
ICP Pressure Is Above/Below Desired, Faulty IPR Valve

P1211{1}{3}
ICP Pressure Uncontrollable, Pressure Above/Below Desired

Sounds like you have a couple things going on, Bad GPR, Bad ICP, and possibly bad IDM. ICP is easy to check, just unplug it and run it without. (If it's running.) If it clears up and/or there is oil on the plug/wires, the ICP is bad. If not, it could be the IPR.

What are you using for a scanner?

What are the symptoms you are having?

I was getting a 1211 and it was the IPR, not the ICP. It gets stuck. There is a procedure to pull it out and break it apart and clean it. Worked for me.

308 could be the connectors on your valve cover.

670 & 683 I would check your glow plug relay first.

1) you are not screwed...
2) never take to Stealer untill all avenues have been crossed.
3) look over the questions asked and take to heart the answers given
4) she is not old, she is Mature and needs a little TLC. Give her what she needs and she will never fail you.

I'm using the programmer that was on the truck when I got it. Superchips Cortex. The check engine light came on so I hooked it up to check and that was what I got. Unfortunately this is my first diesel so I'm not real familiar with all of what it takes to fix these things. I guess it's time to do some searching unless you could point me in the direction of these fixes.

The Superchips programmer should read the codes fine. That is what I use.
To dig into answers/questions/solutions, there are several ways to go and know that the Brotherhood is here to help.
Everything mensioned is faily easy to check.
Tell us about the truck.
Was it doing anything out of the ordenary to make you think why the light came on?

To find diolog on some of your questions, you can go to the main 1999-2003 web page and go to the right side and clik on "Search this Forum", type in key words and see what comes up. Come back to this thread and let us knowwhat you have found out on your truck or ask questions and your will get good answers. Do not be afraid of getting into the engine bay. (just make sure if it is running, stay away from the moving fan and belts)

IPR - http://www.dfuser.com/Install%20Guid...0Regulator.pdf

GPR - Welcome to guzzle's Stancor GPR replacement Mod Web Page

UVCH - check the connectors on your valve covers that feed the injector & glow plug wires into the VC. Make sure they are pushed in. Could also be loose under the vc.

With that many miles (which it is now just broken in) you might, after you get the check engine light problem fixed, look at the threads of RR your transmission oil and filter.

Man you guys friggin' rock. Thanks for all the help. Looks like I will be busy this weekend. Gotta keep this ol' girl on the road for many miles to come. Again thank you for all the links and help with my problems. I will more than likely be back with some questions after checking the above.

We want you to come back all the way through this process until it is done. Tell us what you have found and what you did to fix it (if you 'fixed' it first and then came back for advice on how to do it easier and cheaper, we want to know that to) Search the information and then walk through it, don't rush. We will get there toghether.

Txtinct, the excursion would have a glow plug control module, in the same location as the GPR. It could be a bad GPCM or a bad glow plug.
For reference This is what the GPCM looks like
Riffraff Diesel: OEM GPCM/ Glow Plug Control Module
I have the same codes P0683 and P0670 on my excursion. I made it through last winter but had to plug the truck in a few times to crank it over on the coldest days. I really need to do this procedure myself.
Here is a thread with some useful info on checking the glow plugs.

Okay, I replaced the GPCM and that fixed the no start issue I ended up having. Got two new codes.

P0672 GP# 2 Circ failure
P1316 Injector circ/IDM codes detected

Runs fine and smooth, what am I dealing with here?
