Hello fellow FTE'rs! I am trying to change the fuel filter on my Duty, its a 2000 5.4, and i would like to know, how to change it, well let the pressure out of the fuel rail via the release valve, i do not have a fuel pressure gauge. SO, my question is how can i let the pressure out of the lines so i can change the filter? any tips or suggestion are very much appreciated!
-Josh
look up in your manual which fuse is the fuel pump and you start the truck and immediately pull that fuse so it stalls. then with the 3/8 disconnect tool you can release the fuel filer under the truck and replace it. however i am by no means an expert... i get as far as getting the truck to stall but i can't seem to get the filter to release on my 2004 5.4 so I'm anxious to hear what the trick is...
get a set of fuel line tools from NAPA etc, release the line and a very small amount of fuel will leak out. I change mine ever 3000 miles when i do my oil change, its about a two minute job.
when i do mine i push the tool in and twist the line a little, then get my other hand and pull the fuel line towards the fuel filter. then i pull the lineright off. Ive never had a problem getting the lines off before
Cant thank you Guys enough, i kinda figured it was EZ but the first time is always the hardest, when you dont know what to expect. I will be changing it tomorrow after work. thanks again!

The way I was told to do it is on the passenger side under the dash there is a sensor and if you hit gently with a rubber mallet it will turn off the fuel pump. It is an emergency shut off.

3K miles on a gas fuel filter? Aren't those good for something like 100K or more? I have had numerous gasoline cars and never changed a fuel filter in them.
Thank you all, got ambitious and changed it tonight, was a little tricky but i got i thanks to you all. i cant wait to change it again! oh not only does the truck run better the though of saving $50 every filter change will help too
