So, I'm new to the classic Fords but not to building.
I have a 2001 F150 with a 5.4L 2V motor and the auto trans. I'd like to put this motor/tranny combo in my 56 I bought but I want to do it just a bit different. I want to use one of the newer engine managment systems that are out there now and put a twin screw type super charger on it. I'll upgrade the rods in this motor as I know they aren't the best in stock form.
I haven't found a lot here to research so I was wondering if any of you had any specific threads you could point me too. I've seen some of these systems for the 4V motors and figured it couldn't be that much different than the 2V motors. I think these motors are a good foundations, I just think they have been under represented.
Anyway, any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
the 4v motor and the 2v motor are worlds apart as far as what fits one won't fit the other.
as far as i can find, finding a supercharger kit for the 2v motors is pretty tough. most of the kits are designed for the newer 3v and 4v motors which won't work on the 2v motors.
the other alternative is to try and find a factory 2v Lightening motor with the factory supercharger on it. they are a direct bolt on to these motors.
I've been working on a project to install a 2006 5.4l 3V in one of my trucks.
Unfortunately the 3v is supported by limited aftermarket support(FMS only), for only the 4.6l and 5.4l SuperCharged Lightning engines. I have the non-supercharged version of course.
So I have decided to sell the 5.4l (and tranny) and move to a 4.6l 32v (and tranny).
there are a number of companies that sell wiring to support this mod.
Detail Zone is one of those.
a few here have done 2V 4.6l conversions.
Some folks have done the Crown Vic front suspension replacement, which then properly supports the 4.6l without difficulty. I think the 5.4 would fit as the block is the same width.
Wyatt,
I saw your post on the other thread. I wont get a chance to talk to my buddy until the weekend. I will see if he can help. Welcome to FTE. Thanks

Thanks for your reply.
Yeah, I understand that the 4v and 2v are completely different, but it's my understanding that the 5.4 2v and the 5.4 2v lighting motors are just about identical with the exception of the rods and piston which I plan on changing anyway. Block is the same and the heads are the same so a super charger from a lighting should bolt up.

Sam, thank you for your input. It has been helpful.

Ok. So I found some information on the 5.4 2v motors here but I found a ton of info on the Mustang sites. These motors are great motors and people are getting 400 + HP from them with out super chargers or turbos and without doing gobs of modifications. You just need to know where to look.
Found a couple of books on building these motors and also where to get all the electronics for them without having to figure it all myself. Should be a some what simple process. I've done swaps before but wasn't familiar with the Mod motors but after doing the research I have found it's just like swapping anything else. You just have to know where to look for the I formation you need.
Will start a new thread once I get started. Thanks for the help
I'd be interested to see your progress with this. I'm looking to put a 5.4 Triton in my '56 as well. I have a friend who put a 2v one in his '56 and he loves it. I'm looking into the differences between swapping in a 3v over a 2v at the moment, probably take a bit to get it all sorted out, but it's good to know.
Thanks guys. I'll be moving my donor truck to my garage next week to start the tear down of it and then I'll set the motor and tranny in the frame to check fitment before I tear them apart.
You should be fine with your 5.4 2v donor engine since you are changing the piston/rods, etc. The Lightning engine has lower compression than a standard 5.4 engine in order to accommodate the boost. Just use lower compression pistons when you build your block. The 5.4 Lightning engine is 8.4:1 compression compared to 9.0 on a standard 5.4
If you are going with a twin screw S/C you must use good rods for it to hold up.

Got a question on the front suspensions. I know the crown vic is probably the strongest IFS to put under here but I dont like ow far out it puts the wheels. I like the Mustang 2 fronts but am worried about how they would hold up to the weight of the 5.4 and the truck itself. Saw the volare setup but don't really like it. Any suggestions on a strong enough Mustang 2 kit out there that you have had experience with? Thanks Guys.
