I have a new (to me) 99 F350 diesel, short bed, supper cab and, it has the 4800 front end. What is the difference between mine and the 5500 pound front end? Just springs? Also, the truck does not have the "booster" spring on the rear. Did someone tak it off or, did it come without? It still has the 9900 lb gvw rating. Thanks!
As far as I know the only difference is the springs.
If it's a 4X4 these are the springs and ratings of the springs that I know of..........
u-codes=4800#
v-codes=5200#
x-codes=6000#(says that on my 450s & 550....Someone told me that on the 250s & 350s the sticker on the door jamb reads different lbs on the x-codes I think they said 5500# or 5600# )
As far as the helper spring on the rear........I don't know. My '01 F-350 9900# has it on.
I have noticed the same thing,, I have a XLT 02 250 and my bud just bought an 03 Lariat F250, both have the 5.4 with 3.73 gears. Well one day at work he parked next to me and I noticed that my truck sat higher than his by a couple of inches,,, started looking things over and sure enough, he doesn't have the helper leafs in the rear and although the front springs look the same,,, they are different. Looked at the sticker on the door and my has higher individual axle gvw's, but both trucks have the same overall gvw of 8800 lbs,,,, what is up with this, anyone know what these differences are. I would actually prefer the springs he has as mine has a very harsh ride,,, rattle your teeth kind of ride, but like life, everything is a compromise,,,thanks
