hey i have a 1992 ford f-150 with a EFI 302 in it but i am having a problem with it over fueling and it kills a set of sparks with in a month. when its really cold out like winter time it will kill a set of plugs within a week! anyone have any idea on what it could be?
First run the EEC self test to see if it shows any error codes. There are a couple of sensors that can cause your problems; the most obvious are the oxygen sensor(s) and the engine coolant temperature sensor. If they aren't working properly, they can cause the EEC to run the engine badly. The oxygen sensor need to be replaced about once every 50,000 miles, so I would check those first.
also check the vacum line going to the FPR (fuel pressure regulator). if gas comes out the fpr needs replaced. also check the fuel pressure at the rail with a gauge.
pull the oil dipstick and smell the oil for any gas. if gas appears to be present dont drive the truck anymore. the gas will wash the oil from the bearings in the motor and cause it to fail.
what plugs are you using, tune up? o2 sensor still hooked up? does the truck get to proper temp? might see if the tstat is stuck open. the computer needs a 195* tstat in there for proper operating.
