Fuel Gauge Problem!!!!!

Fuel Gauge Problem!!!!!

I have a 1998 ranger 4.0 v-6, I need some help the fuel gauge is showing way past full, its been like this for about 2 months now it started one morning going down the road I notice I had 1/4 tank of gas, as I was driven the started to move up and finally stop way past full.

There should be a yellow/white wire leading from the top of the fuel tank (you'll have to remove the bed, get some friends to help). Ground it and check the gauge with KOEO. If it reads empty, your electronics are fine and the problem is inside the tank, on the fuel pump assembly. The sensor itself is probably bad (maybe it's just stuck and you can loosen it, if you're lucky). You may have to replace the entire fuel pump; it varies. Good luck.

try ading a bottle of Techron to the next few tanks of gas..........there is a small chance this will fix it and if not you will at least clean out your fuel system.............otherwise most likely you will need a new in tank sensor as suggested
