Just replaced my intake and carb on my 1979 f150 2wd-460 with a c6 tranny, both intake and carb are new, weiand intake and edelbrock carb. Timingis set at 8 degrees btdc and the idle is set with a vacuum gauge and it still smells like it is running real rich and it falls flat on its face under load. the carb is 600cfm edelbrock.

With it falling flat, double check all your vacuum lines... especially the advance hose. I'd also open up the carb and check the float and needles. Something could be hung up. It's not like FedEx or UPS keeps things right-side up.... in fact, neither do I.
Doubt this will do anything but it says on some piece of paper to tap the carb in certain places with a screw driver handle or rubber hammer to loosen anything that has seated. As stated above make sure all of your vacuum lines are connected to the right ports. brakes to the rear port, tranny to the manifold vacuum port, vacuum advance to the timed port, and plug the middle on the front i believe. Also make sure you're fuel pressure is around 5.5 psi.
99% of the time Eddy's are good to go right outta the box, assuming yours was that rare 1% did you pull the "kidney" plates to make sure nothing's hung up/wrong in there....with a step-up spring, metering rod, etc., ?? wrong jet size? it does happen......
