What would you do?

I have had an oil leak for a few weeks.... Top of the engine, in the valley, dripping down the back onto the driveway. With this site (THANK YOU!) I was able to narrow it down to 1 of 3 things....

Unfortunately, I didn't have the time to further diagnose and repair it, so I brought it to the local Dealer.

Dealer calls and says It's the HPOP o-rings. 8 hour job, $850 plus. I say ok.

I use this site to find the TSB for the HPOP O-ring leak. Standard shop time is .8 hours!

I call the service advisor and question him about it, mentioning that I have the TSB in front of me.

He says, oh no, I didn't mean the HPOP O-rings, it's the GASKET... about a 4 hour job, $425 plus.

Ok, so I cut my bill in half because I had some knowledge provided by this site.

This is not the first time this has happened at this dealer.

When I pick up my truck, the service advisor asks me to rate them by checking the "Completely Satisfied" box when Ford sends me a survey....

What would you do?

This is just me but I would check the box "Completely DISSATISFIED" then put exactly what you posted in the comments section.

IMO they were putting it to you without grease & then after you called them on it they at least put a little grease on the shaft before sticking it to you.

It was probably the o-rings...but who really knows

I completely agree.
Its gouging! the comment card wont change anything, but its the satisfactory of calling their bluff.

While I agree the comment card will probably go nowhere Frank it really pisses me off that this kind of stuff gives the "dealerships" a black eye. We are lucky here because there is a dealership close to me that does have some good & honest techs that go out of their way to do the right thing.

I believe I would even go as far as contacting the district mgr if I was in the OP's shoes.

Now here is the best part.
No survey yet, but I drove the truck today and the oil leak is worse than it was before I let the dealer 'fix' it!!!

Can you go farther up the chain, then them.

I would also mention to the "dealership", that you belong to a FTE forum, with hundreds of thousands of members, and that your puting the word out about them ,if SOMETHING is not done..?

They screwed it up they have to fix it. But next Ike I would come here first, find out how to fix it yourself and save money. There are fixes and instructions for those fixes for just about everything on our trucks here at FTE. I have done things to my truck that I would have never thought I would and saved thousands in labor costs. Also lots of satisfaction learning you can tackle these jobs yourself. And deffinately check DISSATISFIED COMPLETELY with that dealer.

Maybe I'm crazy, but I'm giving the dealer another chance tomorrow to make it right. If he doesn't fix it right this time, I'm never going back.

I went to the dealer once, decided it was not worth it. I did some digging and found a ex-ford diesel master who came out on his own. Payed him a fraction of the cost and my truck is perfect now. Maybe trying to find one of those Gems would be the best option.

The story continues

So I dropped my truck back off at the dealer on Wednesday. The story is the gasket they installed failed. So they had to install another one No charge. And while they were there, they replaced the O rings on the HPOP lines.

Looks like the valley is dry now but I still have fresh drips every day and this is day 4.

How long should the residual drippage continue?
