Fastest Launches

I have a 2011 F-150 SC FX4 (locking diff w/ 3.73s) with the 5.0.

What is the best way to get the fastest launches, as if trying to get fastest 0-60 or 1/4 mile run?

Traction control on/off? Tow/Haul mode? Manual Mode? Power braking? Anything else?

Launch yourself to the Ford dealer and then launch yourself into a Mustang. In other words, you bought the wrong vehicle.

Traction off, Leave in Auto. When the light turns green hammer into it and hope you hook up.

Have to agree, if you wanted something fast off line go smaller and 2000lbs lighter (like guys have told me with my Bronco needing more power "A Turd is still a Turd")

I'd say pop it in 4x4 with Traction Control off and the diff locked. You're going in a straight line so no risk of damage to the drive components up front.

I'm not sure what effect Tow/Haul would have on times, but I would be interested to know.

Even in a straight line, on pavement, you still take a risk of some bind in the system. Now, how much or how little is TBD, but to say that there is NO risk is incorrect.

I don't see how that could be true. The binding occurs because the wheels want to spin at the same speed, and two turning wheels on one axle can't do that without slipping. I don't imagine any minor adjustments you make to stay straight would be enough to cause bunding to occur. Ive done it 2 or 3 times in my truck with no immediately apparant ill effects.

Im not saying that it will happen but it can happen. Let's say you decided to replace your front tires due to ill wear so your fronts are a new 275/65/18 and the rears are half worn 275/65/18. well half of 15/32 will leave your fronts about a half inch taller than the rears. Also the rolling circumference of the front is now longer than the rear. I know this is a stretch but it is possible and the 4wd system wont appreciate those differences much on a surface where it cannot slip.
Regardless of the variables it still is not advised to engage 4wd on pavement.
back to the OP's question...you bought a 5800lbs truck. Do as others have advised and get a mustang for launches.

I don't have a newer truck, but with my 70s-90s trucks, I always thought that 45 mph was the recommended limit with 4H engaged. And I agree, don't run it on the dry, and if you do, like pulling your boat up a ramp, just take it easy and only go straight.

There is a lot of drag when you've in 4x4. My gas mileage for that tank of gas goes way down when I've driven any distance on snowy roads using 4x4. I see it as a boat anchor in a drag race. It's not an AWD system. That's a whole different animal.

No disrespect Gentleman, but it drives me nuts when you guys respond to a serious question with stuff like buy a different vehicle. No $#it? Of course a 5.0 Stang would fly, but the question at hand was for the pickup. If you all have advice (i have been helped frequently by the knowledgable people on here) then offer it. But there is no need to condemn the guy for trying to get the most out of his pickup, especially when he is lined up with the bowties and rams!! I would pu tthe question to you all that have a 5.0 in an F150, how well does it hook up for you? Judging by the times that have been posted by MotorTrend, and seeing some videos on youtube, they seem legit. I have an 06 5.4 that has intake, exhaust, programmer and it is night and day difference from stock, but i have a feeling i would still get embarassed by a new stock 5.0. My brother recently got a 2wd Ecoboost, and as sad as it is to say, I am looking forward to seeing how bad that pickup should light mine up. Sorry for the rant this evening, just my two cents.

What's really causing the bind is not the wheels on the same axle, but the fact that there is no diff between front and rear. There still is a diff between left & right on each axle. Unless there is a locker involved, that would make it even worse.
So if the front tires are worn more / less than the rear, there will be binding. Enough to break something? I doubt it, but it would depend on the amount of friction between the tires and the road.

It seems the same responce comes up when fuel mileage is discussed. You hear it all the time, "if You wanted better fuel mileage, go buy a focus"

The best launch is gonna come with NO electronic involvement. 4X4 disengaged, and a good right foot.

Find a remote stretch of road and make a run while in 4x4 and one without and post up what you find. I really dont see any harm in 4x4 as a bunch of guys here launch that way. Watch the top end however and do not go over 60-65 mph. I have never done that myself just as I`ve never tweeted.
imho
Good luck
