Question Adjusting "toe in"

Anyone know any tricks to adjusting the toe in without going to a shop? I just finished installing a new drag link, left and right tie rod ends and a inner tie rod end and I suspect that I may be just a little off on my toe in and my steering wheel is not quite center when the wheels are straight ahead. I measured to reference points on both tires before I removed the old tie rods and I set the same distance with the new rods but like I said, my steering wheel is a bit off. I suspect that I can extend the length on one side and decrease the length on the other side an equal amount to center the wheel but, I want to make sure my toe in is around 1/32 of an inch as the manual says. I figured spinning each wheel with a scribe mark around the center and measuring front tread width but on the rear side of the wheel I cannot measure across because of the body interference. Anybody have any suggestions? Thanks for any and all ideas! I have had dealings with alignment shops that were less than pleasant. On several ocassions I have had to return because the vehicle was worse when I left the shop than it was when I brought it in and it cost me a bundle for their mistakes. I figured my truck was being used as a training aid for youngsters learning the trade.
Thanks,

I would just go to a "reputable" shop and pay the $42. If they screw up and its not right, make em fix it. That's what your paying them for.

how about measuring the front of the tires lower rather than in the middle? i mean it doesnt matter where you measure from as long as you measure it the same place on both sides of the tire.

I had cam sleeves put on my truck (the '95) last week. That fixed my camber/toe-out problem. The sleeves were $22 a piece and they are worth it. My truck drives like a new one now.
