Hi, I have a 96 f150 RC SB 2wd 5 speed with 3.08 gears. I want to get an aftermarket limited slip for the rear. Is it a 31 spline? and will a yukon dura grip YDGF8.8-31-1 work good? Also is it hard to install? Thanks
Yes, the 31 spline axle is in the f150 8.8 rear. I'm not familiar with ( yukon dura grip) you should check with them. As for your ? (is it hard to install ) Well that depends on your ability, if you have never done this ( Crush bearing ,setting backlash, gear contact pattern ect, then it is something you should leave to a Pro. If you are going to do it, now is the time to consider a gear change.
Is this the ford traction lock you were talking about? Ford Racing part number M-4204-F318C I assumed these were for mustangs, I didn't know they would work in a truck.
Yes it will work in a truck with a 8.8" rear axle. Swapping one in is not rocket science but it does require some knowledge of how to setup a differential. In your case you could swap the old pinion gear and tone ring onto the new carrier (with new bearings), set the backlash then be good to go.
