OT Rollin Coal...literally

Looked at a small job for a homeowner today in an old home. The old coal shute was plugged, but the room it was in was almost filled with old coal. She said I was welcome to any that I wanted to carry out. Looks like my wood burner will be firing coal as well this winter!

Nice find. My local supplier wants $100/ton this year. 5 years ago when I started burning coal it cost me $52/ton. Thanks tree huggers......

Be careful burning coal in your wood stove. It burns hotter than wood and if your stove isn't rated for it, I have seen people that have burned up and melted all sorts of things. A little bit at a time is ok, but I wouldn't go hog wild unless your stove is a dual fuel rated unit. The ash is also considerably more corrosive, so be careful. All that being said, that is a good find!

Yeah I've burned a lot of coal. I'm just going to mix it in with my wood, try to keep my costs down
