I started tinkering around with my '41 flatty the other day, and was surprised to discover that there was antifreeze in the radiator, a little fuel leaking around the carb, and what looked to be really clean oil on the dipstick. Now I have another possible engine choice for my project that now makes 4. I havent torn into it yet to see if it is a possible candidate. My question is, are there any easy to come by auto trannys that will work with my flathead?
Do a search for a company called Flat-O. They have been making a kit to adapt a C4 to a flattie for years now. I believe Speedway may also be making a kit, but perhaps only for the 8BA series without the integral bellhousing.
Flat-O isn't cheap, but its pretty much everything you need, minus the trans to run a C4 behind your flathead. They do make a good kit though, I was thinking of running it in my flathead powered '46.
Flat-O didnt have prices on their site, have to wait a few more hours to call. Speedway had adapters for the 8A as you said. You can get the whole thing, transmission included, for 2 grand. Still kinda high though. I really wanted to use my flathead but it looks like I might have to go with one of my other engine alternatives.
