I am thinking of changing my 17" Goodyear at/s Rated C to a less aggresive 16 inch towing tire rated E, Has anyone done this? I am thinking it will give me a littlle more power in the towing range and the E should give me less sway. Is it a big job to get the speedo recalibrated and is this a worth while change. I will be towing a 30" (GVWR 6800bls) with my 03 Supercrew 5.4 with towing and off road package.
Not usually. Ask your dealer if they can recal for the new tire size.
"is this a worth while change."
Depends on a lot of factors. What is the load rating (in pounds) of your current tires compared to what you want to buy? The "E" series might have stiffer sidewalls than your "C"s (3 ply as to 2) but also might be taller ( more tendency for sway.) What will your axle weights (truck) be with the 30 footer? If you are at or near your rated tire max, then without question, a heavier rated tire would be in order. Also, would not want to go with a larger overall diameter tire, as this would effectively lower your final drive ratio. Something you don't want with a 5.4 and 6800#
looks like Im going to have to stick with my C rated tires, I can not seem to get an E class in a 17". Is anyone hauling a 30 ft trailer with this truck and the 17" tires? 150 Supercrew with the FX4 off road package. How does it handle the load?
