Ranger Life Span
88 Ranger 4x4, 2.9L, 5spd. 301200 miles. Going strong. No work done on engine. Just replaced water pump at 298,000. Radiator at 265,000. Slave cylinder at 200,000. Trans at 164,000. Clutch changed same time. Replaced coil a couple of weeks ago. Brakes front and back- on 3rd set now. Heater core twice. No front end parts replaced other than shocks. Tie rod ends getting some play in em now. It's a daily driver. Been taking me back and forth to work since I bought it brand new. Only let me down once and that was when the radiator let go. Been a great truck, Looking for a F-250 power stroke now, then will give truck to my son. These are the best small pickups in the world.

I ordered my '94 XLT Suprcab 4.0 4x4 in late '93 and it's been faithful ever since. 98,000 miles, no rust and electric red paint has held up real well. Ordered with largest tires available/offroad suspension/positraction. Now running 31x10.50 on the stock cast wheels. No major mechanical costs incurred in 10 years. Plan to keep it until it becomes a yard ornament.

Just by reading your post gives me hopes on my newly adquired "old" Ranger, is a '95 XLT Supercab V6 5Spd with 134,000 when got it about 2 weeks ago (it have 136K now!) I've noticed that you guys can run this truck into the 200K+ and even more mileage. So I guess that gives me hope on mine. Thank you guys.

I have 110K on my '93, pretty low compared to everyone else here, but I expect it to make it over 200k, I feel that even if the motor goes bad, it'll be worth having it replaced. It showing sighns of need ing u-joint or some sort of driveline work, but until it gets reall bad, I'm not going to worry. Some of the early 4.0's were not that great, the 92 Exploder we had was the worst vehicle I've ever seen, as soon as you'd fix one thing, something else would go bad. It had 90k when we got it and in 20k miles we had to put a new tranny, o2 sensor, hubs twice, the second time we got manuals, intake manifold gasket , front wheel bearings, interior door panels, radio died, not to mention normal maintainance like tires, brakes, plugs and wires. We got a good trade in for it, but the repairs were still more than what we got for it. But 93 models and newer supposedly had most of the problems fixed. Mine has been great.

I inherited a 1991 Ranger about 3 years ago with about 100K on it. To date it has 163K on it and I've only had problems with the RABS. I've replaced brake pads done regular oil changes and had no problems with it. Well I say no problems the other day my speedo quit and about a week prior to that my fuel guage quit so I have a little work to do. Other than that it is still running fine.

New 2004
I just bought a new 2004 XLT 4x4. I have had my 95 for 9 years now with 138,000 miles it still runs great. I just have gottent to a point in my life where I can get a new one if I wanted and I did. I still have the 95 not shure if I want to sell it or not. The only problem I have ever had is with the fan and turn signals. Both of these problems turned out to be relays worn out. I have always changed the oils at the recomended intervals. I would get in this 95 and leave from S.C. and go to Calf. in it with out heasitation. I Love Rangers best truck I have ever had.

My 97 XLT 2 WD 5 speed 2.3l has been in the family for over 13 yrs. It's been well maintained but not driven gently, I abuse it daily on my long commute to work and with over 400k miles on it all original engine/ transmission running gear... I wonder whether to rebuild the engine and transmission or drive it until the wheels fall off. the clutch was replaced about 5 yrs ago and feels strong to this day, The entire truck just feels strong and sound.
