Drivers front clunk

Hi all,
I have a 01 ex with the 5.4 (works for me) - 118,000 miles
I have a clunk I hear only on the drivers side only when I hit bumps. Going down the road you do not hear it, but hit a bump and pothole I ll hear the clunk. I dont really feel it in the steering, feel it more through the floor board.
I bought the truck about a year or so ago so I do not know what past maintenance has been done to it.
I started grabbing and pulling on things underneith and everything seems tight.
Any ideas? Ball joints, hub, shock? front end ?
I did not jack the truck up and check things that is my next step.

ANy other ideas?

THanks for any help.
Robb

Probably the front sway bar end links.

Check the sway bar mounts and sway bar end links. Sometimes the bolts back out a bit and cause a loose connection to the frame.

I've had the same problem with my X as well. New sway bar mounts and end links didn't stop it. Next, going to replace body bushing under driver's feet. Having a hard time finding one though. Might even try re-torquing the bolt that goes through the body bushing. Somewhere around 90 ft lbs I believe.

When you say you feel it in the floor board it makes me think it is the body mounts. There are six holding the body on and the one that seems to get loose first is the one under the drivers floor board. It is located under the sloped area under the brake pedal. Pull the carpet back and remove the rubber plug and you can see the nut. I think they make a shim that can tighten things up. Do a search for body mounts. HTH!!!
