why can't I post attachments

You can use an off-site host like Photobucket, Flickr, etc. and post them straight from there. Or you can create a gallery on FTE and post from there as well. If you go to the upper left corner of the page to your User CP, click on it and there should be a box on the left side of the page that says "Settings and Options". In that box there is an option that should say "Edit Gallery" or "Create Gallery".
