Thats funny, most everyone knows the 03 6.0 had the best egr cooler! Also the 6.7 is the FIRST diesel made by Ford put into the superduty trucks.
ok, yes, I am so sorry let me correct myself as I am fully aware and mis said with the diesel engine and ford. The 7.3 is the best diesel engine that was put into the Ford, and the 6.7 is comparable in some techs opinions to the 7.3, now, the 7.3 and 6.7 are thought as the best diesel engines USED by Ford, reguardless of who manufactured them. As far as what I said about the 03 and 04 6.0, they were horrible for egr coolers and injectors when we got them in at the dealership I worked at, that was usually what we saw them for. These are personal opinions, and things that I saw professionaly. Its nothing of a statistic or anything.
The reason they kept eating egr coolers was because they didn't know yet then that the oil coolers were the root cause of the problems with continuous egr cooler failures, now whenever an egr cooler failure is brought in they also change out the oil cooler, usually fixing the problem. To go even further into it, a lot of the problems were caused by casting sand from the original manufacturing of the block itself was causing the blockages which resulted in the failures in the first place. I'm on my second 6.0 and I love em both, went from an 03 I bought in 05 to an 07 now. 250k km's on my original egr cooler and oil cooler before I decided to delete the egr system on the truck. Not going to bother with doing that on this one though. Oh and it is my opinion that the 7.3 is far from the best motor used by Ford, I would take a 6.0 over a 7.3 any day, but I am a 6.0 lover. I wish the 6.0 came in the 6.4 trucks for the much nicer interior.
