76 F350 w/transplant 7.3 IDI, vehicle sat in SW desert for 4yrs...got vehicle running, seems good, however on a couple of occassions while driving at highway speeds, after 20 miles or so, she started to seem to lose power/surge and finally stalled. Prior to putting her on road, I installed new filter/water seperator, and mechanical lift pump, is also has a functioning electric pump, near chassis mounted fuel tank. Truck has yet to see many hours of operation other than some local driving in small town, other than the couple of trips 25-30miles, and thats when issues occured. Looking for thoughts on diagnosis...
Your pulling air in somewhere.
There is no sump in the 76 tank. If it was just hooked to the 76 tanks You will find that it’s going to start getting air at about half tank level
I presume that its an original 76' tank, I didnt do the work, but what ur saying makes good sense, since I dont have an accurate gauge (needle moves around alot) so maybe I'll have to look into fixing the gauge and follow that thought...btw, any help on where to start looking for the fuel gauge issue?
why do you have what is essentually two lift pumps??
I cant answer why there is two pumps, it could it be that the previous owner installed the electric due to the exact problem I mentioned on this thread...I think, I'll just disconnect the electric, and fill the tank to the top then see if air intrusion is solved.
On the plus side if the electric pump is at the back Your suction line is in good shape.
Or You’d have a leak. The cure is a surge tank. A small tank between Your electric pump and Your lift pump.
It gives air a place to separate out and go back in a return line to the tank.
local shop here in AZ tells me that its my injector pump that is causing the stalls? someone else said its the injector caps, o-rings requiring new injector install kit. let it be known that I'm confused.

I doubt the injector caps or o-rings are the issue, they typically just make it harder for the engine to start if they have an issue.
First check for any obvious dry rotted fuel lines then "I" would put a clear fuel filter somewhere close to the engine, and see if get's a bunch of little air bubbles going into it. Or see what happens the next time the engine quits. Or you can just go ahead and check the tank as suggested above.
it starts up again, I generally wait 10 minutes or so...did some checking today on fuel delivery, found that a stream of bubbles(especially at higher rpm) are coming thru fuel line from mechanical pump up to water seperator/filter. and btw, this stalling has only occured a few times as I have not had it on the road many times at highway speeds.
is the best repair route to install a surge tank as u suggested? or replacing/repairing all obvious rubber hose connectors? I was viewing ur gallery photos and noticed that the fuel tank on ur 67' was at the rear of truck, as mine is located closer to cab running parallel to frame rail as opposed to crossover like yours. ur truck looks very nice BTW...and thanks to all who have responded with there input!
That front tank is real bad about letting air in. My back tank is a biger 25gl and it dose much better. A surge tank is all I have come up with. Here is a link to one.

Aluminum Universal Fuel Surge Tank MIATA RX7 RX8 GTI | eBay[/quodid u encounter a similar problem with ur install of the 6.9? and found that similar problem, or had u the knowledge forehand? again I thank u for ur sound advice! my rear tank was removed so a stinger(wheel lift for car tow) was installed there, hence no room.
Yes My 67 accelerates so hard that on the front tank anything less than ¾ full the truck will just die.
The 74 anything less than ½ tank on a back tank and going around a corner to fast it will just die.
