Well, the long awaited Recon projector headlamps for the 2011-2012 trucks are here. Good news, they are cool looking and will accept HIDs. Bad news, they are $650, not including HID bulbs. They are also not using a single HID but require two different lamps - each costing $250. So, based on my midnight math, that is $1,100 for a set with bulbs.
I think you can probably buy the DDM HIDs, but they are not the H13s and you will need to have 4 ballasts hooked up. If the DDM HIDs can be used, the total cost will be closer to $750.
Shipping isn't scheduled to happen until October 25th. I'm waiting until the prices come down...
Can you guys tell from the pictures if the turn signal portion is orange. I don't see any orange lights. I also wonder how they dealt with the high low feature. A second HID lamp as the high beam needs a second to light up to it's full brightness. If you are constantly going back and forth between high and low -- how exactly does that work?
Very nice. Very nice. So if I was to go with a set of these as well as the LED light bar I am looking at $2K said and done. Wow that is to deep for my pockets ..... especially for just lighting. Thinking I will get my Brite Box installed and go for the LED light bar and see how that works.
The high beam might just be a normal light bulb while the low beam is HID. the top portion is the turn signal with a orange bulb. That's the way our truck is stock.

I think you are right. From what I read you can have any combination of halogen and/or HID in either low or high position. Does anyone know how luxury car HID systems work for the high beams? I can't imagine a HID high beam in the high beam position would work too well.
Since you are on the fence, let me help you Give them a call and see if they will do a group buy saying that you have 10 owners here willing to buy, if we could get a better price.
If they won't give us a better price on the projectors, see if they will throw in the HID kits for free. I don't buy this "limited quantity" hype.
I also know that they had issues with their first generation of 2008-2010 projector assemblies and came out with a second generation. So, I am concerned that this first generation may have some bugs...
There are two options..... My wifes Volvo has HID for low and a halogen for the high beam. I know on BMW they actually use a shutter that will move up and down across the beam to make the high or low beam. This way there is no heat time.
Marauder I feel the same and am worried about the first gen lights as well. At the same time they have been working on these for quite some time. I would hope they are ready.

I always like to be a Guinea Pig when it comes to technology, but this is a pretty expensive housing and with my experience with the Recon quality on their Xenon lamps, I'm not ready to go "oink, oink" -- okay "squeal, squeal" or whatever that noise they make!
