When 03 xlt f250 SCab 4x4 comes in -- shortly, I hope -- I am replacing the oem HU with Alpine CDA 9815 and the front speakers with Infinity Kappa 5x7 in the doors (for now). I have a small amp that I want to use to run those front speakers, a 100W RMS X 2 channel Blaupunkt PA2100 -- measures 9"X6"X2" without the removable plastic shell. Supposed to run fairly cool.
Any ideas for placement somewhere up front? Under dash or top of passenger kick panel or such? Under driver's seat -- with a child-proof miniature kickpanel to protect it from tiny feet in rear seat?
I'm trying to save rear seat area for future expansion [NOT more tiny feet] subwoofer/amp, and tools.
I have a 6 way power seat so putting it under the drivers seat was not gonna happen. I found that it fit niceley under the passengers seat though. Just a thought.
That might well be a consideration for me -- I have the power seat ordered too! Do you thing an angle iron or such would be needed to protect against kicks from the rear? I don't have any picture of how much clearance/access there is from the back seat. I once used a heavy duty piece of plexiglass shaped like an chunk of angle iron [angle glass just doesn't have a ring to it] to do similar duty in a vehicle.
Sounds like your on the right track. Under the passenger seat would be my bet. I have most of mine under the rear seat. I'm getting ready to move the amp to the rear wall and cut out the back of the rear seat. I have it figured out that I can make a fiberglass unit that will hold the amp. neons and all of the wireing and still look nice. The only thing left undone is to figure out weather I'm going to use paint (white of course) or carpet over the unit. The amp will remain exposed with the connectors and some of the fuse units. If you wanted to really get fancy you could make a rear unit to hold both the smaller and the larger unit. You would just lose more seat meterial. When finished I'll post some pics of it. Good luck with the system.
