I have taken out the behind the seat fuel tank from my 65 mercury and now want to place the tank at the rear of the truck. what would fit into the frame cavity, or would a 66 -77 bronco tank work. I plan to place the fuel door on the drivers side rear fender. or passenger side rear fender. Any ideas what will fit .
Thanks
There have been numerious posts about this subject...just search.
The mustang tanks, up to 72, i believe will fit in the framerails, then you route the fuel hose through the bedfloor or wherever you want it to go...the problem of going throught he side fender is that between the frame and bed there is barely enough room for 3/4 outside diameter filler hose.
I routed mine in the outside fender, and had to cut into the inside wall of my bed to get the hose and fuel door to fit. If you find a small enough fuel door cavity, it might fit withouth cutting the inside wall.
I can get pictures of my work in progress if you want.
Hi. I have a 63 F100 (not uni). I have the same gas tank behind the seat. I can reach the fuel line, gas cap and cigar lighter all from the drivers seat. I have read a few things about using the mustang tank. I also have a 66 mustang. The tanks are for sale from tons of vendors for about 120 dollars. I am also helping a freind restore a 71 Nova. Now that car has a tank that has the filler in the rear behind the license plate. I think I saw a picture of a 50's era truck and the guy had done the same thing. What tank would fit in the rear and have a rear filler tube ?
