If I were you just for another price I'd call racer x and talk to them about what you want/need. If you trust your trans guy for sure, you could get the parts from racer and let him build it. I BET they will want you to upgrade the valve body and not just a shift kit, especially if you want to upgrade the motor some. I'm VERY happy with my upgraded valve body and am going with racer parts when the time comes for mine. I tow real heavy and would like to do the occasional drag race to see what it would do to.
Racer x, John wood, BTS, they do these e4od's all the time so they are the best. Just my opinion, but I'd sure give one of them a call.
I'll keep the Schaefer's in mind. Amsoil was mentioned to me also.
I don't see the price being an issue. The $4000 quote includes the torque converter and removal and installation. A Racer X tranny is $3350 without the TC or installation. John wood about the same.
But I will ask the mechanic now about one of these guys' valve bodies verses what he's going to do with the stock one. From the few people I've talked to here, they had only good things to say about the tranny shop. So that eases my mind a little. This is a lot of money to just be experimenting with.
Yes it is a lot of money and that is the exact reason I mentioned talking to one of those companies. I don't want you not getting exactly what you should for the cost. Anyway, good luck with your decision, you get it built right you will be happy for sure!
So your guy is going to rebuild the torque converter with Sonnex parts. Interesting.
OK, I have to ask, why is that interesting? I am nieve bought these automatic trannies. I know you put it in drive and it goes forward. It least it's suppose to.
Will do. The office boy (I say that because he's a lot younger than me) was trying to explain things, and me not knowing what to ask didn't help. I'll be getting clarification from the mechanic. Thanks.
Thanks. I've seen them, but never handled one up close. Didn't realize they where welded closed. Maybe it's a Sonnax brand torque converter?? I'll be doing some research on torque converters.
They can be rebuilt, just never heard of a local shop doing it. I run coan brand convertors in our race cars, and when I want them freshened, I send them in to the company and they cut them apart and do needed repairs.
