i was going to do a oil change when i realized i don't know what was ran in there before, Rotella i think. If so would it hurt to switch to full synthetic Rotella? synthetic diff lube as well?
You probably already have syn in the diff.. (from factory)
According to my owners manual, maintenance guide, and I quote:
"Rear axles containing synthetic lubricant and light duty trucks equipped with Ford-design axles are lubricated for life. These lubricants are not to be checked or changed unless a leak is suspected or if axle assembly has been submerged in water.. Non-synthetic rear axle lubricants should be replaced every 3,000 miles.."

No problem switching engine oil.. would suggest Rotella T6 syn, 5w40, year round.. your engine will love it..good for your turbo too..
Synthetics are good all the way around IMO, and T6 is a great choice along with Mobil 1 TDT, Valvoline Premium Blue synthetic, Delo synthetic etc. Your rear diff requires synthetic 75w-140 and I believe the front does as well, but 75w-90 up there. As for the rest, I used Mobil 1 synthetic ATF in my ZF6 and power steering, and Valvoline synthetic DOT 3/4 in my brakes. The only one that I don't run synthetic in is my transfer case, which is Motorcraft XL-12 fluid. Truck runs great and the brake pedal feel is improved over the old stuff that was floating around in there.

Thanks in advance.
You should have no issues going to synthetic oil, if you have the extra coin they are good stuff.
Your rear diff was synthetic from the factory, your front was not. I would recommend a good synthetic in both. Check your rear diff to see if you need the limited slip friction modifier. You should have an "LS" in the middle of the service tag on the diff.
How old are your other fluids? X-case, Trans, brake, coolant and power steering? Might not be a bad idea to change them too.
If you want a full synthetic, you'll need Rotella T6 (as far as shell goes. Other brands have full synthetic too, most are just as good, I just know about the Shell.)
T5 is a semi synthetic.
Pay the extra few bucks for T6 and it'll be worth it. I'm on almost 8k miles on my oil and I'm gonna see if I can get it to 10k
