302 or 351

Hi everyone new to this forum. I have a 2007 F350 and am fixing to sell it. Don't need anything that big. I am going to buy a 1993 to 1996 Supercab F150. I have found several with great miles and excellent shape. My question is 302 or 351. I previously owned a 1993 with the 302 but I have found several with 351 and wanted to know the pro's and con's of each. The only pulling I would be doing would be a travel trailer around 6000 pounds.

Thank You
Bamafan1

The mileage is almost the same for both engines, the 351 works at a more relaxed pace, both engines will last A LOT with proper maintenance, if it where my choice, i would prefer the 351, also, whatever you choose, try to get the MAF version, it will be more apt for modification further down the road.

Id take 351 over 302 any day in a truck. More power and torque with same mileage.

The 351 will be hard er to find MAF since only the 96 year had it except for certain trucks with cali emissions in earlier years.

I'd get a 351. I'm actually planning to swap mine. The 302 is a great motor. I have 290,000 miles on mine and its never even had a valve cover off. I still perfer the low end power of a 351 though.

Mass air flow it uses real time air and fuel measures instead of a chart for fuel to air ratio that limits the amount of mods

Easy way to know if MAF or SD (speed density) is to look under hood at air intake tube. If there's a sensor there on the rubber/plastic tube, its MAF.

The amount you can tow is also legally regulated by GVWR, not just engine size...What are you wanting to tow seems a better question.

if you were looking for a 250, I'd say get the 351. Since the 150 is a lighter truck, I think the 302 would do you well. The 302 is easy to modify, and repair parts are generally inexpensive.

Im a huge fan of the 302 as well. I use my 1/2 ton truck as a light duty truck so Im not in need of big power (I have a diesel for the real work truck). Ive yet to see a 351 come anywhere near the fuel economy of a 302 as well.

My 89 f150 has a 3.08 rear end, its a 4x2 witha m5od and a 302, and when i drove the truck as my daily driver it got 20-23 mpg when I drove it decent.

For my needs in a 1/2 ton truck, ya just cant beat the 302.
