I ntermittent no start issues
1986 f-250 5.0 l 4 speed manual EFI
I pulled codes on my truck yesterday and came up with code 31, What does this tell me and where are these parts located so i can begin replacing parts. After i pulled the code, The truck will no longer start. It will not even turn over. So my first thought was the statrte solenoid mounted on the fire wall, So i shorted accorss it with the key on the run postion, and it fired right up. So i go and buy a new solenoid and the same thing no start. So my question is what should i be looking for here ? Bare in mind that some times it will start when i turn the key and other times it will not. This one has be cornfused in Iowa !

Code 31 has to do with the egr valve. It wouldnot cause a no start or no crank condition. It might make it stall or run rough at a stop light.
Troubleshoot the no crank condition just like an older truck without the computer. This would start at the ignition switch, then to the clutch pedal switch, and then to the starter relay.
I just looked at the diagrams. Power for cranking comes out of the ignition switch as a red/lightblue. It follows the sequence in the above paragraph, staying red/lightblue all the way to the starter relay.
