2004 Fuel Water Seperator Heater

2004 F 250 fire at Fuel Water Seperator. After putting out the fire it appears that the fuel lines must have leaked onto the fuel heater connector. The fuel heater connector is toast and the flexible fuel lines above the heater have to be replaced. Can i replace the flexible hose and clamp only or do I have to replace the entire fuel line back to the fuel tank? Also, can i do away with the fuel heater (2006 and later do not have them i think)?

I would see if you can get this moved down to the 6.0L Powerstroke forum.

As far as I know, if you replaced an HFCM now, it wouldn't come with a fuel heater, so it's certainly not required. Unplug it and pull the Fuel Heater fuse (#105).

I don't know about the lines, but they should go back to hard lines at some point. It might be above the fuel tank, though.

Thanks! The fuel lines are hard tubing from the fuel tank to about 2 feet from the HFCM. Then it transitions to flexible rubber. I have not tried to remove it yet but hope I can just change the flexible hose and not the entire line.

Even if you had to use plain old fuel line (make sure it is OK to use with diesel) and hose clamps, I would think you should be able to make it work.

I am going to try that tomorrow. And disconnect the heater too. Georgia doesn't get very cold.

The fuel heaters have been discontinued. I believe that the new water in fuel sensor replacement manifold comes without the heater and with a replacement harness that plugs into the existing body harness.

The fuel lines are fair game for whatever you want to do. Just remember that any flexible connection has to be resistant to diesel fuel. There are lots of folks running around without ANY factory fuel connections.
