Chip as in what? Look at the PCM and see if there is anything hanging out of it.

To see if there is a program on it, you might need to bring it to a Ford garage that can interrogate the PCM.

I do not see if your Ex is a diesel or gas, or what year it is, but I would guess they are all pretty much the same when it comes to the chip location.
My T&S chip comes out of the rear of the computer. PCM? ECM? I do not know the acronym. However... The chip sticks out of this box. The box is perpendicular to the firewall behind the E brake on the left.
If there is a rubber gasket, or if the rubber gasket is missing because the previous owner removed the chip and failed to re-install the rubber gasket, you have no chip.
My T&S chip simply slid over a location on the circuit board after the lacquer coating was sanded off. When installed it protrudes out of the box.
The chip has a wire that goes to a dash mounted dial switch. I rotate the dial clockwise to increase the power, and/or other adjustments, or counterclockwise to do the opposite. 1st pos. is stock setting. 2nd is stock w/ a high idle. 3rd is an additional 50 hp or so. 4th is more hp. and so on. It has been a long time since I used more than the 1st 3 settings but I believe it is a 6 pos. chip. Final total hp on my '03 7.3L Ex??? 425 or 450 hp.
