Engine not turning over
I am having a problem with my ranger starting. I just replaced the fly wheel, starter, and battery. All of my lights and radio are working but the starter will not turn. Now the question. Could the negative battery cable be so bad that it will not allow the starter to engage to start the engine. When I turn the key there is nothing. No crank what so ever. The only thing that happens is that my dome light dims (when the door is open) I had the door open so that is how I know that it dims. The headlights are very bright and are not dimming so I don't believe that the alternator is bad either. It did the same thing the other day and I turned the negative cable and it started right up. It started about 20 times after that and then I turned it off for about ten minutes and tried to start it to go to work and it would not start. I have cleaned the terminals and tightened the cables but nothing is happening. Any ideas if it is not the cable.

Thanks Ken00. I was hoping that this could be the problem. My wife is not happy about me putting more money into the truck. The $2700 for the transmission, transfer case, and clutch then the $600 for the flywheel and new starter work is not sitting well in her mind. She drives a Honda but don't hold that against me it was her idea.

It did the same thing the other day and I turned the negative cable and it started right up
Do you mean you turned the terminal on the battery? If so then that's your problem
