Whats up guys?
Ever since i installed my 3" body lift i've been having problems fueling up my rear tank.I'm not sure what size the tank is,but it will only take about 10 gallons or so.It's gotta be bigger than that!Even the gas gauge reads only 1/2-3/4 full.
Any ideas guys?
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 16-Nov-02 AT 11:20 PM (EST)]I got in an accident with my truck (95 F150) and since, my gauge says around the same. From trying to run it out of gas, I have noticed the gauge is just wrong. My dad's 96 has the same problem, just not the "coincidence" issue. I think it just happened to fall at the same time and probably isn't the body lift causing your problem. When my gauge reads E now, I can only fill it with about eleven gallons. But I can drive all day on E and then fill to around 16. Its an 18 gallon tank. I think the gauges are just goofy. I also heard also of a possible recall on the sender units for these years, so maybe it is a real problem. Try running our tank out of gas and see if it a real fill up issue, or if its only the gauge. If its a fill up issue, check your breather hose for clogs !!
the body lift is the problem
your fuel tank is mounted to your frame
your fuel neck is mounted to the body
when you raise the body you pull the inner fuel hose out of the tank
so now there is restriction when fuelling
quick fix for this
undo the outer fuel hose from the filler neck
pull the filler neck and inner hose right out of the tank
you should be able to loosen the clamp on the inner hose and move it closer to the end of the neck
tighten it up
lube the inner tube up with some vasoline and slide it back in
might be long enough if not get a new inner hose
i know on mine the inner hose is attacthed to the neck with a clamp and ive seen some that are all one piece
so hopefully yours is the same as mine
if not go to the parts store and tell them your inner hose is to short now because of the body lift
some do
some dont
mine wasnt a problem
my buddys 2 inch body lift caused him probs aswell
it doesnt take much to restrict the flow
check your vent line too
could be kinked or strecthed
My 89 has the same problem. It is stock not lifted, and only has one tank. I have made a block out of 4 2x4's stacke on their faces that make a ramp. Put the block in front of your drivers side rear tire and drive up on it when fueling. I can usually get a couple of extra gallons in my tank. Let me know if it works.
88f1504x4,
12 gallon capacity in the rear tank???? I have never seen a tank that small in them, maybe somthing new, I thought the rear tanks were all between 18 to 19 gallons. I guess I have been wrng before but my manual for '95 and for the '96 show 18.2 gallon rear tank and 19 gallon front tank on LWB, and 16.5 gallon front for the SWB.
maybe they put smaller tanks in the older trucks.
