EVAP problem
Hello I have a problem that seems to be kicking my a##. Read all the forums on trouble shooting the evap system on my f150 with 5.4 auto.
My problem is this had the large leak detected code come up. Replaced the cap.
Smoked the system. In your diagrams you have posted, the hose coming off the canister and ending beside the tank into an empty plastic tank that is housed inside the crossmember at the tank drivers side. The diagrams show no referance numbers or names for theses. When smoked the only place that any smoke came out was that plastic box in the crossmember, it has a factory cut round hole in the bottom and just smoked like a chimney. My thoughts are that one of the valves is stuck open. Can any one shead some light on this. Like i said replaced cap smoked the system and that is where im at.

I am assuming your code is 455, 457, 1443 or 442 .
The phase 0 test is the .040 leak test.
The Canister vent is closed to seal the system for a pull down to 7 inches of vacuum.
If this pull down cannot be achieved, it's considered a large leak.
Causes are the fuel cap, a large hole at some point, an overfilled tank, disconnected/kinked vapor line, Canister vent stuck open, or a Vaper management valve stuck closed.
Reference page 13 and 14 of the Motorcraft overview doc for these systems found on the Motorcraft website.
Good luck.

If the smoke test was done with the canister vent valve closed, there shouldn't be any smoke coming off the box.
Note that the canister vent valve is normally open.
What year? I had to replace a section of the fuel vapor hose.
This link has the evap system diagram and a youtube video.
