hot start/ power surging?
i have a 1992 e350 with idi nonturbo. it has 218000 miles. it has a new injector pump and rebuilt injectors.installed before i got it about a week ago.so im told, but the pump looks newer and the injectors are black. when you first start it it will work fine . crank it over and itll fire. but when you drive it long enough for the glow plugs not to glow when trying to start, it will take a lot of cranking to get it to go. the second problem is when driving the trans will shift fine . when you get into overdrive if your on the acc. if will feel like you loose power then itll start agian at the top of the power then bog down again but not shift down. if you just cruise and not on the peddle it will cruise fine. not sure if the pump is out of time or turned down to much. if you step on the peddle at idle you get whiter smoke. it doesnt use any oil or coolant. any ideas?

The pump, even new can be bad, rare but happens.
White smoke is unburnt fuel caused by bad timing. So that may be your problem.
As for the tranny, I don't know much about those, you have the E4OD. I'll ask what everyone else will ask though.
