What? Prisons were originally designed to rehabilitate. Rehabilitation is a recent "value added" service offered by prisons to its long term residents in addition to the already offered confinement from general population service. (Joking)

If this about $$ -
You'd think there be a few dollars in manufacturing license plates?
Heck I have 6 new ones at $40.00 each - wheres all the money going?
Can't be R&D or labor?
Conspiracy... Prisons are actually turning a profit, that accounting firm in NY screwed up again.

Build bigger jails with smaller rooms and automate the care giving. Instead of giving prison construction jobs to the highest campaign contributor let the *inmates provide the labor to build the prisons overseen by ???
(*that is the inmates in the rehabilitation program get to work)

As much as i believe in the death penalty , It is far better in my opinion to just execute the individual who has been convicted of a sufficiently violent crime.......Dragging out their punishment by vindictively making them suffer for years is both a waste of our tax dollars and avery sad commentary on a society that is predicated on forgiveness(for most crimes) and a second chance at life........there is too much of this type of punishment in the world already and ultimately it neither solves nor prevents any future criminal activity...........fd

i believe you all have made some VERY excellent posts. but all the combined time we have spent here typing on the computer, WHY DONT WE DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT??? imagine if we all got together, and campaigned, state to state, or even by country, how much of an impact we could make on the justice system? if ANYone of you were willing to give it an effort, i would DEFINANTLY join you.

Ms. Society has their bleeding hearts out to the murdering *******s, blaming guns and society and not the person commiting the crimes for the problems.

people put their time into telling Jon Public into making him believe that guns are the problem, and it works. i think if enough people got together we could reverse that thought, and get people to beleieve that "rehabilitation" isnt the answer, but the right punishment is.

who is willing to give this a try? honestly? lest quit talking and act, before we become criminals for being law abiding gun owners.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 14-Oct-02 AT 08:11 AM (EST)]We have all shown our reluctance to get involved by selecting the politicians we put into office. Politicians are supposed to be the voice of the people, but they are the voice of cold, hard cash. How can a politician do his/her job while screwing off across the country? The most recent example was Bush at the Texas governor fundraiser. We pay him to run the country and work for us. Instead, he takes taxpayer dollars to fly himself, his wife, and the VP to Texas to help a fellow Republican run for governor. Why are we paying for that? It's not just a Republican thing, it's a politicians thing. They all do it. Here in Michigan most of our state politicians conveniently miss being at the meetings and the votes held by their colleagues. Why don't politicians put in a 50-60 hour week {at the office!} like the rest of us?

As long as we make it impossible for a middle class working person to get elected, nothing will be done to benefit the majority of the people. You have to be wealthy to be a politician. Their is no way around it. As long as greed runs politics, we will all continue to get screwed.

Give anyone that wants to run for office a level playing field. Allow free and equal access to media (TV and radio) for all who are seriously trying to get elected. Completely eliminate financial standing as a means to get elected. Why should an oil rich person stand a better (or only) chance of getting elected than a farmer, a truck driver, or a homemaker? I am sure their are more farmers, truck drivers, and homemakers than oil barons! The worst thing about the wealthy is that most of them inherited their standing by coming from wealthy families, so the argument about their sound business practices being good for the country doesn't hold water. Give me a prosperous oil field today and I will still be rich 20 years from now.

Eliminate the electoral college and give the office to the popular vote. That is the real majority, and the only truly democratic way!
