Cabin Noise

I recently got an '02 F350 CC SRW 2WD to pull a 5'er around with. We don't actually have the trailer yet, but we have two kids and want to get a bunkhouse and the 5th wheel is much more attractive of an option in terms of towing vs. a large travel trailer. I have a '99 F250 SC 2WD 5.4L (for sale) that we used to pull rented TTs with from time to time, but every time we went to the RV stores and showed them what kind of trailer we like, they said we didn't have enough truck.

Well, the dB level in the cab of the '02 7.3L is significantly higher than the '99 5.4L. I kind of like it, but my wife does not. She doesn't even like to ride around town running errands in it!

Someone at work told me he put some brush on sound barrier on a Dodge he has with a 5.7L gas engine and he thought it quieted it down a bit.

Has anyone tried to reduce the noise level inside a Super Duty Cab? Any advice?

Try this if it's noisy around the doors.

Will do. Anybody else heard of the underbody exterior sound barrier? Not sure I buy into the concept. I think padding under the carpet would help possibly.

Anything that cuts down resonance will help with noise. Your cab picks up vibrations and amplifies them. Spray on undercoating will help, but not as much as installing sound deadner in the doors and under the carpet and on the firewall.

Does your truck have an underhood insulator? That would help, too.

I don't recall if it has an under hood insulator. What you saying about the resonance and amplification makes sense. I am a mechanical engineer but not really an acoustics specialist.

I bet insulating the doors and hood alone would do a tremendous amount to lower the sound levels in the cabin. Taking the seats out and doing the floor would be a bonus, but I was hoping someone would chime in with experience on coating the exterior floor.

The doors have a nice hollow sound to them, so I think that is this first front for me to attack.
