Fuel filter change...

Tried it and cannot get the lid off. I used three different strap wrenches and was unsuccessful. Then I tried some channel locks, and bent those trying to move the lid. It did not budge no matter what. Does it require a special tool?

Nope no special tool - shouldn't be that tight. I use an adj oil filter wrench that fits on the "big" OTR truck filters. The od on those oil filtersis close to the lid OD .

Forgot - open the fuel bowl drain for a few secs - fuel pressure can make the lid tough to get off.

There actually is a tool, but I have never had a need as stated relieve some pressure by draining possibly.

I did open the drain for a couple of seconds thinking that could have been part of the problem, but it didn't loosen the lid. How long should I drain it?

Shouldn't need more than 2-3 seconds - just enough to drop the pressure.

Agree, Bleed off the pressure using the water separator valve and place a bucket under the front just to the passenger side of the water pump.

I just did one the other day, Used linemen pliers with a long Philips screw driver through the handles. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...27s_pliers.JPG

Also this wrench the guzzle shows has also worked every time. Welcome to guzzle's PSD Fuel Filter Change Web Page

I would like to get one of these, but they seem to be unavailable.

We have a couple of trucks that have the billet cap - they're kinda nice just use a socket to take the cap off. Also there is 1 style of aftermarket filter that has a "nut" molded into it for easier removal

I have one of these and it wouldn't do anything but slip. That damn thing is on there. I need one of those tools made for it...

I have taken a chisel or screw driver on the fins on top and tapped with a hammer. It depends which style lid you have.

I once had to do the same as the guy above. A few light taps counterclockwise with a brass drift and a hammer, and it broke loose.

I tried that too! It just made the screwdriver dig into the plastic.
