Shaking!!

I have a 2007 an at about 52mph the truck has a slight but irritating bounce(up an down) an after a while sickening. It maybe felt it was coming from the rear. So I had the rear tires balanced an the guy said my right rear tire had a bend to it. Well assuming that the balancing fixed the problem it did not. So I'm going to put on the spare to see if it still bounces what else should I do?

shocks are a possiblity but do not underestimate the wheel balance issue. i have my wheels balanced with weights on inside and outside. if i do not do it this way i will have vibration in the truck. go with a quality company who has the right equipment

you could rotate the tires and see if the shake follows the rim he said was bent. if it does follow then it is time for new rims. if not then look at the shocks, springs, coils, driveshaft, aliagnment. tell us what you find

I have the same problem on my 2005 super crew. Had the tires rotated and balanced, and so did the people I bought it from, and it still shakes. NOt the steering wheel. Must be the tires.

Ok guys I put the spare tire in place of the "rim with a bend to it" an drive it down the road an same thing same speed. Bouncing up an down at 52mph still fills like from the rear. I did notice that's you can physically see the bed shakeout bad also when it does this. Any ideas guys? Also danorules said something about driveshaft how would I be able to check that? Thanks all ideas an ways to check an see are greatly appreciated!!!

Basically what Dan is saying to do is crawl under the truck and inspect the shaft to make sure it is still straight. A problem in the drive shaft would be pretty visible so if that is an issue you would notice something off. I would take off one of the shocks it is only a couple of bolts and check it out. If its bad replace the rear ones.

I would also inspect the rear diff oil and make sure it is fill correctly and damage isn't being done to that.

If you have limited slip rear diff you may want to add some friction modifier to the oil.

Sounds like your e-brake might be stuck a little. I had the same problem. Turns out our ebrakes stick a little bit. Or maybe it is the clutch packs goin out, friction modifier might help for a little while.

Ok guys checked the drive shaft an it looks good no noticeable damage but I checked the play in the driveshaft/u joints an in the front I have maybe a play of about a 1/16 on a inch in both directions. Is that u joint shot an possibly causing the shake?

Similar issue

Got a 2004 F150 with a similar issue.
I changed rear dif fluid and used 75 W 140 rated with Ford reccomended LS friction modifier. 74000 miles on machine. Improved it to some extent. Also noticed a shudder when turning from a stop. After the lube change seems to have improved quite a bit. The vibration occurs at 55-60 mph and also seems dependent on the type of road surface, with concrete making it worse, depending on the quality of pour. I might suggest a rear differential fluid change, making sure you add some friction modifier, as it seems to help the Limited Slip function better. My two pennies.

Check the e-brakes

Check the e-brakes. They do stick now and then on these F-150's. I drive two of them and it has happened on both. Feels like you have a flat tire in the rear. If it's just a little stuck it feels like a tire out of balance. If you let it go the e-brake cable will actually come off down at the hub. You have to get down there and pound the lever were the cable attaches back to the disengaged position and reattach the cable.
<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>
You can help prevent it from happening by exercising that cable periodically so that it doesn't have a chance to freeze up.<o></o>
