So whats the deal with aftermarket units? Do they just flow more air, or do they suck down more gas too? Ive seen ads for them, yet havent met anyone with one (aside from the mustang crowd). Im not sure if there worth the 350 or so price tag they have.

Of course. If you only added more air, the mixture would go lean and the engine would run hot & knock. The computer keeps the stoichiometry right (within obvious limits), so more air in means more fuel in, which means more power out.
