Radiator Help, Stat! Which to purchase?

I have a 1973 F250 CrewCab with a 390/C6.

My radiator gave up the ghost, so I need to update it..The question is, which do I get? A friend at school gave me an old one, but the mounting lip/tabs aren't position correctly. The dimensions are approx., on the original, 28.5x28.5 overall and the core is 24x26.5.

The local shops want to charge me $425 for a 4-core, but Checker only wants $301. However, the dimensions on the Checker radiator are 19.25x26.5 inches. Do I want the same dimension 3-core or another 4-core of slightly smaller proportions?

I need the mounting tabs/holes to be on the front most part of the radiator.

If any additional information is needed, please let me know. As well, Pictures can be taken if necessary.

*note* This seems 73-79 specific, so I posted here. And anyway, do we really trust any other group on here?

The 3-core of the proper size would be OK. A 4-core is better but only if it is the same size or larger. In your area you might want a 4-core if you can find the proper size...

Whatever you get make sure the fan shroud fits properly.

i seems the parts house would be able to get you what you want. try taking the old one with you as a guide.
also, check out one of the high performance parts stores on the internet. almost, if not everything is cheaper when ordered on the net.
in any event, a new radiator is expensive.

I know that on my 390 that I had built up and far from stock my three core is just not doing a good enough job for it so I need to step up to a four core.

Wink oh you are going too hate this

I have A 1978 ford f-150 4x4, and i was going too replace the four core wich is also kowen as the Desert cooler oh yes I blow a head when mine went out, and they are not chip if you think that is bad you should try byeing a fan shroud for one they do not make them any more so you go too the junk yard and pay
$150.00 for the shroud. and too modify is more money than too bye the 4 core too start with. but if you are still over heating try what i was told too do get a 5or6 fan and a fan exstension it works great no fan shroud and im cool all the time good luck on the reman of the desrt cooler the shops will charge you up the rear for it and if your like me you want it done right..

Even though this thread you found is 2 years old, I'm sure others will appreciate your contribution.

The 4 core rad shroud is quite rare alright.

To BUY one seems to cost an arm & a leg.
