I have a 1996 E350 with a 460 that has a miss. The engine has 25,000 miles on it so it has set more than it's been driven. I have put in new plugs, wires, cap, rotor and cleaned the corroded end of the coil. I have changed the air and fuel filters and dumped sea foam in the gas tank all with no change. The other night I unplugged the map sensor to hook up a vacuum gauge and the check engine light came on and the miss went away. I switched the map sensor with a running Ford truck and the truck still ran fine and the van still missed. Anyone have any idea's? The cat runs hot, as it should with a misfire. I'm tempted to take it to a shop but I have a feeling I'll be buying a bunch of parts I dont need as they eliminate things they think it might be. Help. RB
Would a compression test of each cylinder show you anything? Could be a stuck or burned valve especially if you're already ruled out plugs, wires etc etc. Hope its not anything serious............

It runs perfect when the computer is in open loop so it's not an engine issue. It's either the computer or wiring or sensor. Probably something real stupid.
I paid someone to diagnose it for me, and they could only guess that it might be the ignition module. So tonight I bought one and put it on. It looks exactly like a TFI module, they just moved it from the distributor to the fire wall. It runs like a top now.
Your engine is not wired right to use the gray one. Also your computer is not programed to use the gray one. You will not have as much power from the engine and it will be harder to start along with poorer gas mileage.
You will also be getting an error with the gray one.
