Rock Auto lists one that looks like a non Motorcraft replacement 6.0l cooler.

VARIOUS MFR Part # FO4050103 {#5C3Z7A095B}
6.0L; Transmission cooler assembly $238.99

I have not seen temps over 200 and run synthetic fluid but I thinking about putting one on my 6.8l.

Hey all, I have been thinking about doing this to my new (to me) truck.
When I checked where the cooler is supposed to be I saw a huge cooler (takes up the whole front) in front of the smaller 9 row 7.3 Tranny cooler. followed by the radiator behind that.
The truck came with a "Towing package". Does this mean it already has the extra cooler?
I will attach a picture as soon as I take all those pesky plastic push pins off.

The 6.0 cooler isn't an extra cooler. It's a replacement for the stock and much smaller 7.3 cooler.

You're probably looking at the AC condenser or the intercooler.

andym-

Understood. The large cooler directly behind the grille is 31X23, then a smaller unit below that (see picture) Right behind that is the 9 row 7.3 cooler and behind that is the large AC Condenser which is about as large as the one up front and right next to the large fan. Everything is still connected. I have a SG2 that I will program for TFT and see what temps I am getting.

Yes, the 6.0 cooler is an upgrade over the stock V-10 cooler. The stock 7.3 cooler was tiny and smaller than the V-10's which in turn is smaller than the 6.0 cooler. I pull an 11k TT with my 2V V-10 4R100 trans EXcursion and monitor the trans temp with a stand alone gauge, the highest temp I have seen yet was 202 for about 2 minutes then it dropped back down to 180-ish at the top of the hill. I still have the stock V-10 cooler in place but have been thinking about swapping in a 6.0 unit with the next trans flush just for future insurance.

I pull a 6,000 pound travel trailer with my 99 v10 and have the 87 performance and tow tunes from 5star tuning and my trans temps seem to hover around 140 not towing and 185-210 when towing. I do have 210,000 on truck and 45,000 on the rebuilt trans. Should I upgrade the cooler or just do yearly fluid flushes?

Fluid flushes are at 30K intervals. I believe this was for severe duty as well. I am no expert but the cooler could help the towing temps.

How many mile do you average yearly?

I average about 8,000 miles a year but it's a lot of short trips and then 4-5 long towing trips a year. Just bought truck this February and haven't towed much with it but want to keep truck forever so I want to do whatever I need to make that happen. I was a duramax and Allison guy before this so I don't know much about the v10. Miss the duramax Allison combo for towing but not the 600 payment or constant Regens on short trips

Have you done any transmission fluid changes? If your going to install the cooler do it then. Your truck may have a torque converter drain as well.

All fluids were changed out right before I bought it in February. It looks like previous owner took really good care of truck, he gave me a stack of repair statements/maintenance receipts for last 5 years.

I'm no expert either, but I'm pretty sure that's what a transmission cooler is supposed to do.

Smiley your temps will probably drop 40-50 degrees on average all around if you swap to a 6.0 cooler. It's really a no-brainer if you care about the life of your transmission.

There is an excellent write-up on FTE about it, probably linked in this thread somewhere. I followed it and had no issues. I also added the inline filter and I'd recommend that as well. No such thing as too much filtration.

Most brass adapters that I have found are rated to 140 degrees or 160 degrees. Is that satisfactory? Or do you recommend a different material barbed adapter? Thanks.
