I began having MPG problems in my '06 F250 6.0L, so i changed out both fuel filters. After doing so my MPG dropped even worse. It dropped 3mpg. I checked the air filter, and it seems fine. Any suggestions?
HPO is the high pressure oil system, engine oil that is used like hydraulic fluid to fire the injectors. If it's leaking you could be loose mileage and have a truck that's hard to start when it's warm/up to operating temperature.
There are several things that will effect your fuel mileage. Have you been doing more idling than normal? Summer has come back on strong where I live...so the a/c is getting run hard again. How fast are you driving? Front end in alignment or recently lift the truck? Do you have a check engine light? Or any stored codes? There's allot of different things it could be...but we need a little bit more information.
Zhilton, i should mention that i also added a fuel injector cleaner just before the new fuel filters. now to answer your questions, my idling hasnt been any different, our summer has been the 2nd worse since 1980 we have had 42 days over 100 degrees. I drive alot of city and hwy, so my speeds vary. I probably could use a front end alignment. When i bought the truck it came with 20" rims and 325 tires, but i dont believe its been lifted any. no check engine lights or codes that im aware of.
Is it a 4WD? If so, chances it's stuck in 4WD? I know the '03 & '04 won't always lite the CEL (check engine light) when there is a fault code...and I'm thinking their might be a couple of minor items with the '05-'07 that are the same. Might check your CAC (charge air cooler) boots to make sure they're not leaking/cracked. They're the short rubber hoses (4 of 'em) between the turbocharger and the intake elbow. There's two...one on each side of the intercooler, one up by the turbo and the last one is right at the intake elbow. I'd check the one by the turbo and the one where air is forced into the intercooler...those are the more common ones to sub-*** to the oil vapors in the intake. But I'd still make sure there isn't some kind of code stored.
One quick check that you might want to do. Drive the truck for a while, then stop and check the temperature of each wheel. Do this by feel.
If a wheel is hot to the touch, you have a brake that drags a bit. This will impact fuel economy.
The rear calipers (slide pins) like to get corroded and can cause brake drag. Sometimes the calipers themselves do not fully retract. So far the only problems that I've had with my '06 has been related to sticking brakes. Low fuel economy was the tip-off every time.
Gotta love the new salt solution they put on the roads around here.

I hope it was designed for a diesel and doesn't have any alcohol in it.

That one slid right past me...nice catch
There are allot of minor things not related to the engine it's self that could be effecting your fuel mileage. But then there are several things on the engine that would throw a code that could also effect your burn rate on liquid dinosaurs. Let us know, just for the knowledge.

Well guys I took it to a mechanic, he said he had to clean the intake because it was filthy. Changed the fuel filters to Ford filters. I would advise not to buy off brand fuel filters. Also cleaned erg valves (whatever those are), and replaced the fuel pressure regulator. After all that it does seem to be running much better. My MPG's have gone back up. He did find that the filter cap under the driver side was not screwed on all the way and that the filter in there was actually shorter than the Ford one that is suppose to be in there.

Obviously you have not done any homework on your truck prior to mucking it up.
