On my '92, the acceleration is fine around town for the most part but the worst is like when I'm turning onto the highway, going from say 30 - 65 mph. I feel the gears shifting as I'm accelerating, but when I'm getting to higher speeds it feels like it lingers on some of the gears, and I almost have to slam on the gas pedal to get it going faster. Then when I do it just roars and jerks forward. I don't know if I'm explaining this very well so ask if I'm not making any sense
So my main point is, how do I resolve this problem? Is there any way to get it to accelerate through the gears more smoothly, with more power?
The check engine light does come on, well, off and on frequently. I tried to use O'Reillys code reader but it wouldn't work on my truck, that was a while back so maybe I'll try again.. can you pull codes when the light isn't on? Also any idea what sensor it could be?
Well that would help if I had a code reader.... Anybody have any idea WHAT exactly could be causing this problem? Like any idea on what specific sensor it may be, etc.?

The codes can be read WITHOUT a code reader, although a reader is easier, but if you don't have one just click on the link Nathanl25 posted.. In post #4.....
The nice thing about this trucks, is that you dont need a code reader, other than your self. If you got a piece of wire, your keys, and a few minutes; your truck can tell you what is "maybe" wrong with it.
By doing my research, it appears to me that the Throttle Position Sensor may need to be replaced.
Certainly could effect tranny behavior, but I think error code scans will reveal a better picture. If nothing else, back up or dispel your quasi-educated guess.
TPS's out of range will "almost" w/o exception, tell on themselves in error code scans. Last one I bought (Motorcraft) was $87. Do you feel $87 "lucky"? TPS is far from the only potential cause.
You don't want to count flashes? Me either. For $23, digital numeric display & Memory. Also denotes what "type" code your looking at. In stores or on line: Equus Innova 3145 OBD-I Ford Scan Tool
I will just go out and get a code reader and pull the codes. I can spare some money before forking out $80~ on the TPS when that may not even be the cause of the problem. I like to jump to conclusions... but I'll go purchase one today and see what codes come up.

Thanks
Basically what other's told you, just a little more effort to convince.
On pushing the Code reader, I'm a tad dyslexic & never could read the same codes twice in a row w/ the paper clip method. The paper clip "itself" however preformed flawlessly.
Update: Used O'Reillys code reader, that didn't work. So I Bought that code reader that you linked me to, at O'Reillys today and it didn't work either! At first I'd follow the steps and it would come on with all zeroes, then it wouldn't turn on at all, even with new batteries. So I returned it... I'll just wait and have my mechanic pull the codes for me the next time my truck is back in the shop.

Should have tried it on any 81'-95' Ford you had laying around! Hopefully he has an OBD1 code reader.
I leave mine hooked up under the hood, just setting there. Alway's works. 3-4 years now.
