Recently bought a '96 Explorer V6 with 115k. The tranny shifts very smooth into all gears, no hesitation when going into reverse or forward. However, on the 2-3 shift it takes about 1 second, during which the RMPs flare-up about 400rpm.
Is this the TC locking up? I suspect the TC because it ONLY happens once she's warmed-up and lockup should be enabled. Does this sound normal?
Keep in mind this is the full electronic tranny. Thanks!
The A4LD has two electric solenoids, 4R55E has 3 and the 5R55E has 4 with a bunch of other sensors. TC lockup will cause a 300 rpm drop and only happens in 3 and 4. Sounds like you are starting to have problems with the high/reverse clutch.
