Hi, have a 2001 Ranger manual trans 110K miles that seems to be jerking while driving. It does a kind of "bunny hop" like you don't know how to drive a stick. Happens when you drive and put a load on it. Already replaced the horrible looking spark plugs and also replaced the fuel pump too......need HELP!
Welcome to FTE. This is a great site to learn about all things Ranger.
Several questions arise:
1. What brand of spark plug did you install? Rangers are partial to Motorcraft or Auto Lite plugs. Other brands seem to give them indigestion.
2. Did you replace the plug wires? Again, owners have the best results with Motorcraft wires.
3. This should have been Q # 1: What engine do you have?
4. Are you sure all the plug wires are connected correctly?
5. What other maintenance items are up to date? Check your owner's manual to see what other items need to be replaced or serviced. With the mileage you have on the truck, the list may be fairly long.
6. Is your check engine light on? If so, take the truck to an auto parts store (AutoZone, Advanced, O'Reilly's, etc.) and have them give you a free readout of the codes that come up. Make note of the code numbers and post them here so we can give you more help.
Good luck on coming up with some answers.

Reason: Typos
1 - AC Delco Spark Plugs - but it was doing this before and has been doing this since I've replaced the spark plugs.
2 - Yes replace plug wires - with whatever they had in stock can't remember
3 - 2.3 engine manual
4 - Yes - my husband did it he's a mechanic
5 - No, the check engine light is not on.
Just not sure what else it could be.....we replaced the fuel pump (with a Bosch) but not the complete module - just the bare pump.
The '97 Ranger I drive for work has a 2.3 w/manual trans. It was doing something similar. At 1st there was no cel. The shop replaced the fuel pump and filler neck (?) and it did not fix it, and the cel came on. I'll describe it as an intermittent stumble. This time they said the timing belt had slipped and gave the cam sensor bad readings, so they put a belt on it. The jerking/stumbling is gone but the cel came back within minutes after I picked it up. Runs fine overall but seems to bog very slightly as you release the clutch between gears.
