I have a 1995 F-350 with a 351. It has duel fuel tanks. The truck had not been driven in a while and more specifically the rear fuel tank had not been used in a longer while. I took it out the other day and it drove just fine. The rear tank was empty so I added 10 gallons. When I switched the selector to the rear tank the truck started lurching. It seams to me that the fuel delivery is not consistent. when I switched back to the front tank everything was cool. I am assuming that I have a fuel pump problem because I think everything else is shared between the two tanks (ie filter pressure regulator). I have a couple questions.
Does everyone agree this is a fuel pump problem?
If not what else could it be?
I think the procedure is remove bed, remove fuel line (w/ special tool), remove pump (w/ special tool), and reverse for install. Is that correct and is there anything else I should worry about?
When you go to remove the locking ring from the top of the tank, don't hit it with a screwdriver to drive it free. A spark would be very bad. Either use a brass punch or put a pair of vise-grips on the tab and hit the vise-grips to loosen it.
