According to what I've read and for those of us who DL movies on the internet, windows media players later than 6.4 can cause playback probs and you may have probs finding the right codec's. I haven't personally proven it myself, just what I've read from other users.

BTW, Real Player features SPYWARE, and at no extra cost. Delete Real Player AT ONCE, then go to downloads.com and get adaware. Use adaware to remove the snoopware/spyware that Real Player puts on your computer.

Mil1ion
I dont download movies, but I do a lot of MP3's and playem with Winamp3, if you like MP9 has some neat swirly imaging on audio play Winamp3 gots a lot to choose from.

on a side note, my main PC that I use has a wire from sound card to Receiver in family room as well as S video. I Broadcast the neat swirly imaging to all my tv's, pretty cool for partys
I also use Anfy http://anfy.com easy to use software for broadcasting family/party pics.

im such a geek

WMP in the future (When?) will be checking for hidden authorization codes in downloaded music. They plan on enforcing their own version of copy control. RIAA and M'soft have gotten together and you will not be able to play whatever you happen to have. I'm done with someone telling me what I can do. I have NO music on my machine, but just thought I'd pass this on..

Microsoft is not planning anything of the sort!Think about it why would Microsoft ruin their profits(Bill G wants all the money he can get). This was brought up on another board i'm on and it's nothing but a rumor that was started over a year ago.

As for dvd's get the latest version of Power dvd it's a good dvd player program especially for XP.

I get the trad mags. I read them. Microsoft and RIAA are working on using the hidden codes to determine what you can and cannot play on your machine. If they think you do not have the proper authority (READut in the original CD or DVD at their whim) they will no let you play whatever it is. They also are working on a reporting system to notify Redmond what you are playing.
If Eweek, Infoworld, and others are lying, let me know.

I'll have to look into this more Microsoft would lose alot of money if it goes thru due to it being what i would think is a privacy issue. There have been a lot of storys started lately(mainly from RIAA)they will stoop to anything to stop p2p file sharing.

So far, it seems to be running fine. I have a firewall and that has not shown any unwanted behavior.

Don't worry Alanscott it's not going to happen any time soon.I have been doing some digging on this and there is a privacy concern involved. Microsoft can't dictate what you can play or can't play on your computer.

Alan does your puter have lots of extra ram? Mine doesn't have enough juce to run the new ms video player. I went back to the basic media player so my machine would run.
