I was hit by a minivan while riding my bike to the local supermarket. He was coming out of the parking lot, and rolled through the stop sign, never looking my way, and hit me. I was on the sidewalk facing traffic (which is why he is claiming it is not his fault) and he was exiting the driveway. The impact threw me and my bike into the slow lane of traffic. There were numerous witnesses, and quite a few people stopped to help me, and to direct traffic. Even a registered nurse. When I landed in the street my lower right leg broke in three places. Mainly due to a previous accident involving the right knee, which rendered it unable to bend more than 60 degrees. So when the knee would not bend, something had to give, and it was the lower right leg. The tibia was the major break about 3-4 inches below the knee, but I was told where it connects to the ankle also had a small crack, and there was another small crack somewhere else. I could never spot the two small cracks when I looked at the X-Rays, but the big one was very easy to see.

I am still recovering from that. I can stand and walk, but not for very long, so whenever I go places I take the wheelchair with me to make it easier for me to get around, because even when I do walk it is very slow with a walker, or a cane. At my last visit with the orthopedic surgeon I was told they changed their mind about putting me under, and snapping the knee. They want to schedule me for six months of therapy first, and if that doesn't give me any more flexing, then they will put me under and snap the knee. I would not mind a little bit more bending in the knee as it would make getting in and out of the Bronco a lot easier, but the thought of six months of therapy with people pushing and pulling on my leg is not a good one.

Damn man. I had a similiar accident, but recieved no injuries except a sore *** (skip the jokes lol). Was riding against traffic. Coincidentaly, the guy who hit me was a good buddy of mine from the gym and from church. He was making a right turn off a side street at a 4 way stop and never looked my way. He floored it from the stop right into me. I went head first up over the hood of the blazer, tumbled over the roof, and landed on my *** in the middle of the intersection. With the adrenaline pumping the first thing that came to mind was to jump up, run to the car and shake his hand lol. That and assure him ive taken harder hits from linebackers in football

I see people do it all the time, they slow down for a stop, but don't come to a complete stop. And, they don't look both ways. My attorney says we have a good case, and it is worth a lot more than the $100k the other guys' insurance company offered. Consider yourself lucky in not getting any injuries. I honestly think if it had not been for the previous knee injury that my leg would not have broken because the knee would have buckled like it was supposed to.

My medical bills are currently at $129k, there are no lost wages because I have been unemployed since Sept 30th, 2010.

Yeah, I have been toying with the idea of staying over night, as I don't want to drive the Bronco at night with its strange electrical problems.
