While it is a manual trans, I wouldn't go out of my way to own a G56.. I love manual transmissions, but I'm pretty sure I'd rather have the new Ford auto than a G56....

The G56 isn't as BA as the NV5600 or ZF6, you can really bang through the gears...not as clunky as a NV5600
Or you can get a trans built by Brian and never have to worry about it again...
Hmmmm... $4500 vs what maybe $1000 for a ZF5 swap? I like how Brian's transmissions shift and they definitely hold the power, but if your going for the cheaper route, BTS isn't the cheapest. LOL If I was to buy a built auto, I'd probably have to go with RacerX. Everyone and their mom runs a BTS.

You may be right depends on what you're lookin for i guess.
Me... everything I do to my truck aims to last forever. None of it does, but im willing to spend to make it last.
The most compact would be to have the 3 speed box behind another 3 speed box for 9 gears. I think two sticks would be harder to sell so some sort of mechanism to simplify selection of the gear would be in order.
I drive a crew cab, long bed pick up. I don't care about compact. There's plenty of room under there for as long as a transmission as you would like.

Like relaxing while driving. You always have to have someone else hold your coffee
It's time you caught up with technology Rick. Those someone to hold your coffee things are called cup holders. The plastic aftermarket ones became popular back in the 70's. I even cut the lip off that was supposed to hand on the door and screwed one into the dash of my 64 truck.

Anybody remember the twin-stick Chrysler Mitsubishis (Colt, Saporro, Cricket, etc)?
Actually, if you have a 4x4 5-speed with manual hubs, you can always shift to 4L with the hubs unlocked, giving you an effective 10-speed.
Back to the general topic, I remember seeing a thread in the tranny section on the 'nation, guy's OEM E4OD dying, asking "who makes a good replacement". I sheepishly answered "ZF"; no replies .
