I pulled the heads off the 390 today to fix the 8 broken exhaust manifold bolts, and I discovered there were 2 different types of head gaskets on the engine. One was a FelPro multi layer gasket and the other was a thin all metal unit.
I have a set of FelPro Q8554PT (4.232" bore) gaskets ready to go, but I'm wondering if I can get something thinner and/or with a smaller bore to try to get a minor bump in compression. I'm looking at the Cometic MLS C5835-040 (4.25" bore 0.040" thick, 9.3cc advertised volume) or the Ford Racing M-6051-A427 (4.23" bore 0.040" thick, 9.7cc advertised volume)
Anyway, does anyone have a recommendation for anything else, or should I stick with the 8554? Thanks!
